Why are lacie monitors so expensive

Text was very legible, even at small point sizes. White navigation icons grace the lower right side of the —there are no physical buttons. You simply put your finger on the icons to maneuver around the menu system. With its large black window and white text, the menu took some getting used to, and I imagine that its uniqueness could turn off some. However, after spending some time using it, the apprehension went away and I found it to be very usable.

How We Tested: We connected the display to a 2. We noted the performance of the display with its default, out-of-the-box settings and then calibrated it to 6, Kelvin with a gamma of 2. That's simply not the case with the higher end SpectraViews. This is straight from the PM. You get what you pay for. So I am really interested to learn what exactly this PM said. LaCie may or may not get products from NEC that are "selected", either for better or worse than average characteristics, but they meet the same published specifications.

In all fairness to LaCie your statement may or may not be true in this particular case and may unjustly cast doubt on the quality level of the LaCie product. As to the pick of the litter, its just that. Do you know how LCD panels are manufactured? In huge well something like 6 feet wide groups , then the best of the best in terms of manufacturer testing are used for OEM,s others for the top of the line models. They are not identical, but they do have specifications of which LaCie like other OEM's clearly have access to and their units fall within.

This was the case with the Sony Artisans as well. The tubes were hand picked from the line for inclusion as Artisans based on the spec's of a fixed 21" unit those that fall below are garbage, those that fall above spec are used to produce Artisan. So that's exactly what I mean by OEM's don't get the top picks off the line.

They get a unit that falls within a spec, a spec the manufacturer gets to define. I didn't say that all products are the same quality. You seem unsure. So you agree the panels differ in quality and you are under the impression that OEM's get the better of the group? I said, and stand by the sentences above that says "OEM's don't get top pick off the line". Pretty simple. Thanks Rodney, I always understood that to be true, but I never had the ammunition to back it up.

I did at one time, but I can't re-locate it, so I've had to just bite hard and swallow, even though I knew better. Yes, I'm sure to the extent of the facts that I have at my disposal. I'm sure the same limitations applies to you and everybody else. LaCie at one time not too long ago had these funny looking LCD monitors with a dark shield behind them that were significantly larger than the screens themselves, creating a "dark mat around an image" effect, but they removed those from their line-up very soon thereafter.

Those monitors did not have any characteristics of NEC models. And yes, mr. Nitpicker, it would have been more accurate for me to say "As of this day, June 15, and to the best of my knowledge, current LaCie's are rebranded NEC's, but some obsolete models may not have been" instead of the simple "LaCie's are rebranded NEC's".

Happy now? Don't twist my words, if you please. I didn't make blanket statements to the effect that panels differ in quality and I didn't say that I am under the impression that OEM's get the better of the group.

In order to eliminate any chance for further distortions of my words, let me state what I think: panels MAY differ in quality, IF selections have taken place. But that's a far cry from making these blanket statements that products WILL differ in quality. It's my guess that you don't KNOW in this particular case and if so, you shouldn't make such assertions. NEC's production output may be so stable and product characteristics may be so tightly grouped that it wouldn't even be possible or financially advantageous to select products to be either NEC or LaCie product.

I don't have any reason to twist your words, considering I'm simply quoting you. Hey guys, thanks for the tips, your input has been very helpful. This forum has been very very helpful thanks again! Sabrina, You can stay within your budget! Got it. So I looked it up again, and it seems like the alone is sold out everywhere I'd give my credit card number to, and even some places I wouldn't.

I even saw a place where they said it was discontinued. I'll give them a call tomorrow to find out more.

Since it now appears again and at a lower price point, it looks to me that they changed their mind. Hopefully you can find out tomorrow. A good place to go for information is the NEC live chat in the product support area.
